It's another great week for frugal gardening!
The soil and seed deal is back again, so if you missed it the last time you have a chance to get it this week.
The Seeds: .20 per packet
(with Walgreens in-ad coupon, week of 3/11-3/17)
Starting today through 3/17, you can get five packets of vegetable or flower seeds with the in-ad coupon for $1! The coupon ends up making each packet 20 cents. The limit is 10 packets, so you should be able to get a nice variety for $2!
Potting Soil: .99 a bag
(with Walgreens in-ad coupon, week of 3/11-3/17)
Walgreens also has another great deal through 3/17 on potting soil with the in-ad coupon. The coupon is good for an 8 pound bag of Hyponex soil or a 4 qt bag of Earthgro, and the coupon makes each bag 99 cents. The limit is (2) this week on the soil.

FREE COMPOST
Did you know you can get free compost? When you clean your yard and put the yard waste curbside, the city then picks it up and brings in to be recycled into compost.
Our local composting facility is located at 400 Dugas Road in north Lafayette Parish.
Free compost is available Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. and on Saturdays from 7:30 a.m. until noon.
The city will load open bed pick up trucks and trailers, but if you have a vehicle with an enclosed back, then you must bring your own shovel and manually load your vehicle.
For further information, call 291-8529.
If you live outside of the Lafayette area, contact your local government's Environmental Quality Division and inquire about a composting facility near you.
FREE MULCH
You can also find free mulch! This time of year, people are cleaning their yards and getting them ready for spring. Check local trading or freecycle boards, or be on the look out closer to home. Sometimes you will find that someone in your neighborhood has gathered pine needles or has cut down tree limbs and shredded them with a wood chipper. All you have to do is ask to use it in your yard, and I'll bet it will be free for the taking.
Some wonderful garden books I own and recommend:
Carrots Love Tomatoes: A really wonderful companion planting book that is a great resource for keeping your plants healthy naturally using companion planting as a method of natural pest control.
Lasagna Gardening: A nice resource that illustrates and explains the concept of layering as a way to achieve a weed-free garden.
Lasagna Gardening With Herbs: Another nice lasagna gardening book with herbs as the focus.
Square Foot Gardening: A really nice reference to help you get the most yield out of a small space.
