Coupon Organization Series: The Accordion File

Coupon Organization Series (Part 2)
The Accordion File

The small accordion file is usually the method beginners will use when they start their coupon venture.  It can be found for as little as $1 at the dollar stores and it is already pre-categorized. It will only accommodate clipped coupons but it is easy to get them filed and it is convenient to bring the file into the store with you. Though the coupons are categorized, you will have to sift through the coupons to find the one you want if you do not prepare before going shopping. This can be time consuming in the store.

One nice advantage to the accordion file is that since you have all your coupons clipped and ready, if you happen upon some clearance you can search for coupons to pair with it on the fly.

You will need to go through your file every couple of weeks to pull out the expired coupons, though.  It is so disappointing to find a clearance item, and pull a coupon from your file only to be disappointed when you realize it has already expired.  Tip: When you go through your file, pull the coupons that are close to expiration and place them in a pocket you’ve labeled “expiring soon”.

This method works best if you clip and file your coupons as you receive them and is a very convenient method to use if you cannot set time aside to prepare before you shop.  The accordion file will fit easily into the glove box or console of your vehicle or in your handbag so it is always handy for those last minute trips to the store.
